Tea Time Tidbit for the week of January 13, 2020
If you’re a fan of crime dramas, be sure to tune into MPT on Sunday, January 19th at 10pm, for a brand new series, Vienna Blood, based on the best selling novels by Frank Tallis.
The six-part series is set in 1900s Vienna, where a young English-born student of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud uses his understanding of human behavior to help an Austrian Detective Inspector solve some of Vienna’s most mysterious and baffling cases. Not only is the series a compelling mystery, the location in which it was filmed is one of the most historic and cultural cities in Europe and the series takes full advantage of showing off Vienna’s stunning architecture.
The role of Max, the student, is played by 30-year-old Yorkshire man Matthew Bead, who you might recognize from the film The Imitation Game, where he played the youngest of the code breakers, Peter Hilton. In preparation for his role in Vienna Blood, Beard arrived in Vienna a couple of weeks before filming started. That way, as he said, he had a chance to “soak up the city.”
The actor also watched a lot of documentaries about what was going on at the time in which the series is set – 1906. It was a time period which saw a huge burst in architecture, art and science and Beard felt it important that he explore it best he could. And, of course, Beard delved into Freud, given how crucial the character is to the series and to Beard’s character.
Vienna Blood airs at 10pm starting Sunday, January 19th and you can let me know what you think about the series.
