What's next for: Michelle Dockery

Tea Time Tidbit for the week of April 18, 2016

Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary in Downton Abbey

Michelle Dockery, who played Lady Mary in Downton Abbey, has certainly not been letting the grass grow under her feet since the series ended. The actress with the sumptuous British accent recently resumed work on a new American television drama series called Good Behavior.

The role is a far different one than we’ve been used to seeing Dockery play the last few years. For starters she plays an American – Letty Dobesh, a con artist, with a southern twang, who on her release from prison gets caught up in derailing a hit man’s murderous plans. There’s also not a castle in sight. Filming for the series began last October in Wilmington, North Carolina, but was interrupted following the death of Dockery’s fiancé. Dockery resumed work on the series last month on the set of a run-down farmhouse in the North Carolina countryside. Good Behavior is scheduled to premier this summer on TNT, and you can see a trailer here:

Dockery is also starring in a film called The Sense of an Ending, which is due to be released sometime this year. Based on the novel of the same name, the film stars a host of other familiar names, including Jim Broadbent, Charlotte Rampling and Harriet Walter.

Another film due to be released this year is the musical Consider Yourself: The Lionel Bart Story, starring Geoffrey Rush as the famed composer-lyricist best known for the musical Oliver! Dockery has a supporting role in that film, which also stars Broadchurch’s Olivia Coleman and Al Weaver, who plays Leonard Finch in Grantchester.

But wait….there’s more! Dockery is also the voice of artist-turned-missionary Lilias Trotter in the documentary, Many Beautiful Things. Screenings of the film are taking place around the world and it will next be screened in our area on May 5th at 7pm at the soon to be opened Miracle Theatre, 535 8th St SE, Washington, DC. Here’s Dockery talking about her experience with the film:

I’ll have more on what the Downton Abbey actors are up to now the series has ended, at a later date. In the meantime, if you’ve got a suggestion for an actor you’d like to see featured in Tea Time Tidbits, write to me.
