Tea Time Tidbit

Downton Abbey film

The first full-length trailer for the Downton Abbey film recently became available and it looks as though the downstairs staff are going to have their work cut out. Some extra special visitors are arriving and Mrs. Hughes wants “every surface to gleam and sparkle.”

Along with the trailer, a movie poster for the film was also released. It shows all the familiar faces from the TV series, along with a new four-legged member of the household. Here’s the movie trailer:

The film, which is set in 1927, won’t be released until September 20th, but if you’re in need of a Downton fix before that time, be sure to tune in on Sunday, June 2nd at 7pm, when Jim Carter, who plays Mr. Carson in the series, will be hosting Downton Abbey Returns! The two-hour-long program celebrates the series and features new interviews with the cast and creators along with never-before-seen video clips.

Another film you might be interested in keeping an eye out for is All Is True, about the imagined last years of Shakespeare’s life in Stratford-upon-Avon. It was released a couple of weeks ago and stars Dame Judi Dench as Shakespeare’s wife Anne Hathaway. Playing the role of Shakespeare is Kenneth Branagh, who also directed the film and at 58 is 26 years younger than Dench. It seems to me that as far as Dench is concerned age is just a number.

According to Dench’s partner David Mills, he and 84-year-old Dench recently returned from Borneo where they filmed a new two-part television documentary about conservation in Borneo, due to be released shortly. In it, as well as catching crocodiles, the couple also abseiled up trees! Ms. Dench is one amazing Dame!

You can see Dame Judi in As Time Goes By weekday afternoons at 3pm.
