Ballykissangel's Dervla Kirwan
Tea Time Tidbit for the week of September 30, 2019
Dervla Kirwan in Ballykissangel
I hope you’ve been enjoying Ballykissangel. The series will conclude October 9th and on October 10th Lark Rise to Candleford returns to Afternoon Tea.
Dervla Kirwan, who played Assumpta Fitzgerald in Ballykissangel, is currently strutting her Shakespeare at the Chichester Festival in Macbeth. She plays the Lady Macbeth. Here’s a short behind the scenes trailer for the play:
This past Easter I had the good fortune to see Kirwan perform up close in an in-the-round production of Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train at the Young Vic in London, where she played the state appointed attorney of a young man at Rikers Island prison awaiting trial for the for the death of the leader of a religious cult. The Dublin born Kirwan’s American accent was impeccable. Her facility for accents is something for which she credits her parents – especially her French born mother. "My parents have a brilliant ear for languages and mimicry and accents, which I think I've inherited - that I can listen to things and pick them up,” Kirwan once said in an interview.
Lark Rise to Candleford
As well as the return of Lark Rise to Candleford, Afternoon Tea will also be welcoming back As Time Goes By. Episode one will air Friday, October 4th at 2:30pm, replacing Keeping Up Appearances, which will return at a later date.
On Sunday, October 6th be sure to stay tuned after Poldark for another great Masterpiece series – the U.K. six-part drama Press. Set in the offices of two fictional newspapers, the series follows the employees of the two publications as they battle to keep their personal lives afloat while working under the pressure of a 24-hour global news cycle and an industry in turmoil. David Suchet stars in three of the six episodes.
So lots to look forward to this fall on MPT.
